PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION
Substation Area Maintenance Engineer (AME) is the Technical and Engineering owner of Electrical Substation equipment in their assigned service territory (Pepco). Substation AME role includes a take home company vehicle, E-key and NERC Substation access, and provides opportunities to continually develop knowledge and expertise in substation equipment through independent and company provided training opportunities and team and self-trained exposure. This position is a direct report to the Manager AME Pepco. This role will provide key input and hold accountability for substation preventive and corrective maintenance, material condition and replacement and substation incident investigations. Provides consultation and recommendations and train and mentor others. Responsible for developing engineering and technical documents. Lead, manage and provide input for the personnel and the activities of internal and external stakeholders like construction and maintenance, suppliers and contractors. Promote compliance and adherence to accepted standard engineering, design and safety practices. Position may be required to work extended hours, including 24 x 7 coverage during storms or other energy delivery emergencies.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
Accountable for addressing emergent and emergency issues impairing the functionality of the system. Troubleshoots emergent issues in the field and/or office setting, identifies necessary replacement parts, executes corrective actions for extent of condition issues, single point of contact for emergency substation event response
Provide detailed engineering and technical support for substation activities for internal and external organizations. Provides field technical support in the area of electric substation work and/or mechanical systems to develop solutions for corrective and preventive maintenance, equipment replacement and new construction activities. Investigates, analyzes and reports on system operation events and develops corrective measures in coordination with all stakeholders. Perform field safety audits.
Drives and oversees the development and implementation of short and long term strategic and tactical business and labor initiatives designed to assure the highest levels of customer services and to achieve Exelon's safety, reliability and performance goals.
Supports the overall budget. Contributes to and monitors business plans and business unit objectives. Balances cost control with appropriate capital and maintenance investments. Perform work prioritization, process adherence and resource utilization, assists with the prioritization of CM, PM and PdM tasks.
