PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION
The Director will manage and direct the activities necessary to develop the framework and strategy for the Utility of the Future program, assuring alignment with all regulatory requirements. Develop and coordinate relationships with all impacted external stakeholders. Identify, evaluate, analyze and recommend strategic policy options related to Utility of the Future that impact the operations of the electricity distribution business so these options support Exelon’s strategic vision. Lead, coach and engage an internal team of professionals to successfully achieve the company's goals.


The strategic framework will include the development of a governance model that defines how ‘Utility of the Future’ work across the Company integrates with this centralized organization to ensure strategic coordination and alignment. The position will be the primary interface between Regulatory and Operations, particularly on consideration and deployment of new technologies.


Develop and present (or support VP) presentations for review and approval at various executive and board meetings.


The Director will work collaboratively with the senior leadership team, leaders in Regulatory, Finance, Legal, Operations, Customer Operations, HR, Communications Exelon Utilities and Exelon to ensure alignment.

Position may be required to work extended hours, including 24 x 7 coverage during storms or other energy delivery emergencies.



PRIMARY DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Design and implement a repeatable strategic planning process that includes development and refinement of strategic objectives, scenario development, and economic modelling and analysis methodology and tools to evaluate and prioritize options under consideration.
  • Lead the development and implementation of the company’s strategy and long-term road map to move to a new utility model, consistent with Exelon strategy. Conduct jurisdictional and industry research, perform economic modelling and analysis, evaluate pricing structure and rate design. Identify and evaluate specific technologies required to support the platform model. Develop and drive achievement of performance indicators that support the strategic plan. Partner with Regulatory, External Affairs, Finance, Legal, Marketing, Operations and other key stakeholders in EU and Exelon to ensure strategic coordination and alignment.
  • Collaborate enterprise wide to enhance the utility as a platform value proposition, build synergies and integrate and align work streams and initiatives. As the co-lead for the Operations Coordination and Utility of the Future Steering Committee, foster collaboration, partnerships and the sharing of information and expertise between departments at PHI and with other enterprise departments and initiatives.
  • Facilitate development and implementation of a communications and marketing strategy and materials that articulate the strategic framework, describe results of the analyses, advance thought leadership and build support for the platform model with legislative and other external stakeholders.
  • Provide leadership to the Utility of the Future team; provide timely and accurate feedback performance.
  • Identify and build partnerships in local and state communities; maintain relationships with community, business and regulatory leaders, in close coordination with Governmental and External Affairs.

POSITION SCOPE
This position has a direct impact on the Company’s ability to generate new revenue streams under the Distributed System Platform model, thereby impacting shareholder returns, cash levels and earnings.


The position has a broad sphere of influence both internally and externally. Internal relationships include the executive leadership of Exelon, and PHI – serving on corporate committees and teams providing input into business strategy development for the regulated businesses in a constantly and rapidly changing regulatory environment. In addition, this position is called upon to provide expert guidance and/or advise Company management with regards to complex business and regulatory issues on a routine basis.


The director will report to the PHI VP Regulatory Policy & Strategy and have direct management responsibility for managing a team of 7-10 employees of the strategic business team.


The position requires that it be a trusted and reliable source of information for the regulatory agencies and other parties involved in the regulatory processes that impact the Company. The position is charged with participating with both internal and external organizations to develop regulatory infrastructure or develop alternatives to regulatory requirements that help to define the regulatory environment in a fashion that promotes and protects the interests of the Company. In doing so, the position requires the ability to effectively interface with regulators, customers, expert consultants and others, demonstrating cooperation, tact, diplomacy and excellent judgment to further the Company’s credibility, image and strategic objectives.


In addition, the position will routinely interact with PHI leaders, including the senior team, Board of Directors, community leaders, regulatory, industry and community groups.


Position generally operates with wide latitude for independent action and decision making, while understanding the constraints on authority for issues that impact broad constituencies.


Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Business, Economics, Applied Mathematics or related field and 10-15 years related experience Deep knowledge of the industry, including emerging technologies and operations.
  • Strategic planning and strategy-development experience; strong strategic and analytic capabilities
  • Strong quantitative analysis skills; ability to use industry analysis, financial forecasting, business model evaluation, scenario analysis and other forms of data intensive financial modelling to derive strategic insight and inform decision-making.
  • Strong project-management skills
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, including strong presentation skills; will regularly interact with senior executives, PHI Board of Directors and external stakeholders including State and Federal commission staff.
  • Ability to interact and foster collaboration with leaders across the organization, establish credibility and build effective internal and external relationships
  • Adaptability and ability to effectively manage and motivate through change
  • Inquisitive and creative with a passion for innovation

  • Proven ability to lead, motivate, coach and mentor teams leading to a collaborative, goal-oriented environment


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master’s degree in business or related field
