Assists the Assistant attorneys and paralegals through the performance of complex secretarial and clerical duties requiring knowledge of legal terminology and the legal process. Under general direction, performs responsible, specialized and confidential legal assignments and research for specified area within the Law Department.  Works closely with clients and with other legal and governmental agencies.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES 
1. Prepares and proofreads draft legal documents for attorney review and filing with court, state or federal agencies, including photocopying and document assembly.

2. Responsible for scheduling and calendaring, travel arrangements, expense reports and reconciliation, and handling of outside counsel billing issues through matter management system.

3. Organizes, assembles and maintains information, facts, records and other documents as needed to support attorneys and legal actions. Performs miscellaneous tasks as needed. 

4. Develops and maintains a knowledge of statutes, court decisions and customs relating to procedures and practices in appropriate areas of law

5. Develops and maintains a working relationship with clients both inside and outside the firm to obtain and clarify information needed to substantiate facts, identify, document and otherwise support legal actions

6. Prioritizes work from multiple sources, meets deadlines and deals professionally with clients and stakeholders
POSITION SPECIFICATIONS 

Minimum:

-  High School diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 2 years professional legal experience in a specialized area of law

-  Possesses a general knowledge of law firm/corporate law dept. and legal practices and procedures, and of various court systems; familiar and highly adept in the use of computers and software packages (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) as utilized by the Company

-  Requires excellent clerical skills and knowledge of grammar, spelling and punctuation; requires excellent proofreading skills and attention to detail
-  Good initiative and judgment required in determining course of action in the occasional absence of established procedures; willingness to accept increased responsibilities; ability to meet critical deadlines and be accountable for completion of tasks

-  Must communicate clearly – both orally and in writing – to read and analyze legal materials and other data, to work in stressful conditions under time deadlines

POSITION SCOPE 

This person will deal with confidential material. Must be committed to producing products of high-quality involving court documents and other legal matters.  Schedules appointments, gives information to callers, takes dictation, and otherwise relieves attorneys and paralegals of clerical and administrative work and business detail.  Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of complicated tasks.
