PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION

    Under attorney direction and supervision, performs general, specialized, and confidential legal assignments, functions and research for specified area within the Legal Department.  Assists with legal proceedings, transactions, and other legal matters by identifying problems, needs and procedures.  May work closely with other legal, governmental, or regulatory disciplines and a variety of clients, and assists in the planning, research and evaluation process directed towards the management of the Company’s legal exposure.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Prepare and file documents with state public service commissions; collect, organize, manage and submit data responses
     
  •  Collect, analyze, organize and maintain the entire array of electronic and hard-copy data, information, records and documents, and utilize applicable software systems (e.g., legal hold and document review platforms), as needed to support Legal and Litigation attorneys and to manage document subpoena productions/responses
  •  Develop and maintain a knowledge of other internal procedures and processes in the applicable areas of practice within the law department
  •  Under direct supervision of attorney, provide general support as needed to pre-litigation and litigation matters.
  •  Draft documents that require insertion of basic information and/or utilizing standard format following department practice.
  •  Special projects for litigation group, non-litigation practice groups or legal operations team.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Possess at least two to four years of professional legal experience; possess a high school degree or equivalent; and possess a paralegal certificate from an accredited institution or have a minimum of two to four years of in-depth practical experience, including litigation, in an established law firm. 
  • Possess a general knowledge of law firm and legal practices and procedures, including litigation, and the rules or procedures required of the various courts and administrative systems.  Possess a working knowledge of legal terminology.  
  • Be highly skilled in Microsoft Office and other office applications.
  • Possess and demonstrate initiative and sound judgment required to make decisions without supervision and in the absence of exact established procedures.  
  • Possess willingness to accept responsibility and devote the time necessary for success in a legal environment.  Possess the ability to meet critical and short deadlines and a commitment to the successful performance of tasks.
  • Possess the ability to communicate clearly – both orally and in writing – and to read and analyze legal materials and other data.  

POSITION SCOPE

  • Supports attorneys, company management and senior level paralegal staff in matters involving company personnel, and outside counsel and their staff
  • Supports co-workers regarding department activities and functions
